Ndingo donates to Serowe SOS village

SEROWE - One of the most talented local artistes, Ndingo Jowa donated P1 100 to the Serowe SOS Children’s Village as a sequel to his weekend live music performance at the Pat Kay Jazz Garden in Serowe. Ndingo had asked the audience to drop any amount that they could master into his hat as he was performing to ensure the money would find its way into the SOS coffers to enable them to buy presents for those children who have lost their parents. The amount of money so raised has not been revealed as it was left in the custody of SOS. It was said that the overall figure will be announced when the money is formally handed over to SOS.

Ndingo said that he wanted to prove that they as artist are also imbued with a measure of humanity and love for one another. He said that he will encourage other artists to do the same during this festive season as it is proclaimed that “blessed is the hand that gives.” He said that in all his performances since the beginning of this festive season he has been showing a compassionate spirit everywhere he goes because he wants the orphans to feel that they are an integral part of the society and “we do care about them.” Ndingo performed familiar tracks that the fans could easily identify with including tshwene ya rotwe. He also showcased his ‘gorilla dance,’ which he said he did it better than anybody else. A young lady in the entourage with a blistering voice, who was introduced simply as “Viola, the young Brenda,” took the Serowe residents by storm when performing Brenda Fassie’s classic tune, Vulindlela.

Ndingo was not only on a music sojourn. Delving into social matters, he encouraged the audience to drink responsibly and avoid drinking and driving as many people have perished owing to the growing practice of drinking and driving. He said artists should always make it their duty to encourage people to drink responsibly because many accidents take place after the festivals when people are joyously heading home.

Fun day for children at SOS Village

Tlokweng SOS children recently enjoyed a day of fun and games, courtesy of Botswana’s chain stores, Choppies Value Stores and Bokamoso Private Hospital. The fun event also gave the children the opportunity to dj their songs of choice with the World Cup 2010 track, Waka waka by Shakira and Freshlyground proving a popular hit with the children.

According to the convener of the event, Thabiso Nasha, the event was aimed at providing the children with a day of song, dance and braai. It was music and song galore from 10am till sunset, with performances by a new local act, Tiger and his back up team as well as DJ music in between.

The children also went head to head in a dancing competition under the watchful eye of one of Botswana’s accomplished performers in Letso Bakwena of Da Vet Crew. Bokamoso Hospital marketing manager, Agnes Mogotsi said it is important that the corporate sector from time to time lend support to institutions such as SOS and pledged to look into ways in which the Bokamoso Brand together with the SOS could work closely to achieve the common goal of supporting Botswana’s Children. She further said while Bokamoso Private Hospital is a recent establishment, it is through the support that Batswana have shown and continue to show to the hospital that has enabled the hospital to continue to contribute towards charitable causes. Bokamoso is Botswana’s most advanced and equipped private hospital with experienced and qualified staff.

It officially opened its doors to the public this year, posturing as Southern Africa’s best medical facility. Representing Choppies Stores, the marketing executive Oitsile Marole said Choppies’s social responsibility initiatives continually focus on charities. Marole said they would continue to support charities, especially those associated with improving the welfare of future leaders of this country who are the children. Marole highlighted the importance of simple fun for children and its importance in a child’s development. “It is only when one visits the SOS that one can truly understand and feel the love and innocence that is extended by children in challenging situations, their strength and love of life is nothing short of inspiring and admirable,” said Nasha.
